Authentic Chai Masala Powder Recipe - Chai Spice Mix

Authentic, five ingredient, authentic Indian chai masala powder recipe also known as chai spice made in 5 minutes!  Use it to make a cup of chai, chai spice cookies, masala chai ice cream and more!

Equipment

  • 1 spice grinder or coffee grinder

Ingredients

  • ½ cup green cardamom pods or powder 80g
  • 6 tbsp dry ginger powder 45g
  • ¼` cup clove pieces or powder 18g
  • ¼ cup black peppercorns or black pepper powder 30g
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon sticks or powder 1-1.5 sticks cinnamon, 8g* see notes

Instructions

Whole Spices

  • Simply grind the spices together using a coffee grinder or spice grinder to make a fine powder. 

Ready made spice powders

  • Measure out the spices and mix well in a bowl or run it through a coffee grinder for better mixing.
  • Store in airtight container.

Notes

Use 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of chai masala per cup of tea (dependent on your preference). Boil with water, tea, milk and sugar.
Masala should stay fresh 2-3  months.
Cinnamon stick can be broken apart with pestle into pieces prior to grinding
