Equipment

  • 1 Blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • ½ cup corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp food color powder I used McCormick's (see picture in post).

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients into blender jar and pulse to blend. Shake in between if needed to help reduce the amount of clumps.
Cornstarch, vanilla extract, and food color powder in a blender jar.
  • Sieve the powder. Press down on any lumps to help them break apart.
    Finely sieved custard powder.
  • Store in an airtight container.

Notes

I looked at two popular companies (Bird's and Brown & Polson) and both do not use sugar in their custard powder.
I kept sugar out of this recipe to help control the amount added to each recipe.
If you'd like you can add 1 cup sugar to this blend.  Milk powder can also be added for additional creaminess but again, I like to leave unnecessary ingredients out and adjust as needed for each dish.
