Ingredients

This recipe requires only basic Indian spices and the usual pizza ingredients. The one key ingredient is, of course, Bhakri!

Bhakri pizza ingredients in small bowls and plates.

Bhakri – I use leftover Bhakri for this. It has a bit of crisp texture just like pizza. It is not that hard to make. You can also use any pizza crust or puff pastry but you need bhakri for the classic way!

Crushed tomatoes – In the US we have canned crushed tomatoes. It is the easiest thing to use to make your own quick pizza sauce at home.

Cheese: So, the classic cheese to use is Amul cheese. But, you can substitute whichever cheese you have on hand.

Fresh ingredients – Garlic, onions, jalapenos, capsicum (bell pepper), corn kernels, and basil. Note, garlic is the only ingredient I used in the sauce. The rest are optional toppings. You can choose based on what you like and what you have available.

SpicesChaat masala, Italian seasoning blend, red chili flakes, salt and sugar.

How to Make Bhakri Pizza

To make this easy dish you will:

  1. Prep the veggies – chop the toppings of your choice and garlic.
  2. Shred the cheese
  3. Make the pizza sauce
  4. Make the pizza stove top

Making the sauce

To make the sauce, heat oil in a pan and add onions. Mix and cook 2-3 minutes.

Then, add in the chopped garlic.

Follow that up to adding in the crushed tomatoes and spices.

Mix and simmer 3 minutes. Turn off stove.

Making the Pizza

To make the bhakri pizza, put the top side down on a pan on medium heat. Let warm up 1-2 minutes.

Flip and top with tomato sauce then cheese.

Add toppings and sprinkle a little chaat masala on top.

Cover, reduce heat to low-medium and give it 3 minutes to let the cheese melt.
